Mainstreaming disability issues in India
Handicap
International (HI) has been active in India in the field of
disability and rehabilitation since 1988. In
disasters-prone areas, one of HI projects focuses on
reducing the vulnerability of persons with disabilities, to
increase their opportunities to participate in disaster
risk reductions initiatives and be prepared against floods
and cyclone hazards. This project is being implemented in
three States: Andaman & Nicobar Islands, West Bengal
and Orissa.
